Dr Andrew Crowther
Lifetime Fellow of the Community Hospitals Association
Andrew is a Fellow and Past President of the Community Hospitals Association, having served the organisation across many years in both clinical and committee roles.
He worked as a GP and anaesthetist at Tewkesbury Community Hospital, where he also held a hospital practitioner role for 34 years. Andrew became closely involved with the community hospitals movement after Tewkesbury hosted the AGPCH (Association of General Practitioners in Community Hospitals) conference in 1991, and went on to take an active part in CHA's work, including hosting Chinese medical delegations and meeting politicians to promote community hospitals.
During his years with the CHA, Andrew wrote up a record of each conference, summarising the talks given and produced a brochure on the history of Tewkesbury Hospital. He also worked on complaints proceedings in Wales.
Speaking at the CHA's 50th anniversary in 2020, Andrew reflected:
"After 34 years as a GP anaesthetist and hospital practitioner I was persuaded to be the President of CHA which I accepted as a great honour."
He and his wife Jane, a former theatre Sister at Tewkesbury, were great supporters of community hospitals together, and many CHA committee meetings were hosted at their home. Jane continues to volunteer at Tewkesbury Community Hospital.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to community hospitals and to the CHA, Andrew was made a Lifetime Fellow of the organisation at the CHA National Conference in 2024.
